Artwork & AI designs
We prefer a print-ready PDF designed by a seasoned professional graphic artist in Adobe Illustrator — that gives the best, most reliable result. But if that's not an option, yes — we'll do our best to print from an AI-generated PDF too. AI art usually isn't set up for printing — it's screen (RGB) color, often too low resolution, and has no bleed or crop marks — but that's the easy part for us to fix. Follow the tips below when you generate it, send us the file, and we convert it to CMYK and add the bleed and crop marks. See our full print-ready AI guide →
Tell it four things: (1) the final printed size, plus 1/8 inch of bleed on every side; (2) generate at the highest resolution it can — up to 600 DPI if the tool allows, since more pixels is always better; (3) keep text and logos at least 1/4 inch inside the edge; (4) use bold colors (bright neon shades shift when printed) and export a lossless PNG or TIFF. For a large poster or banner, also ask for the biggest size the tool allows and enlarge it with an upscaler (see below). One caution: AI often misspells words baked into an image — keep important text (names, prices, phone numbers) out of the picture and we'll set it cleanly. Then send it over and we handle the rest. As high as the tool can make it — aim for 600 DPI when possible; more pixels never hurts. Big prints are viewed from farther away, so they need fewer dots per inch: roughly 300 DPI for something held in hand, 150 for a poster, 100 for a large banner. If your AI file falls short, send the largest you have and we'll enlarge it.
Bleed is artwork that runs 1/8 inch past the cut line so no white edge shows if the blade drifts slightly. Build your file at the final size plus that margin all around — or just send it and we'll set the bleed for you.
Screens glow in RGB and can show colors that ink can't reproduce; printing uses CMYK ink, so the brightest neon greens, blues and oranges settle a little. Pick rich, realistic color and we'll proof the converted file before anything runs.
Send a high-resolution PNG or TIFF, a high-quality PDF, or vector SVG/PDF (best of all — it scales to any size). Avoid a small, heavily compressed JPEG. You don't need to convert to CMYK or add crop marks yourself — we do all of that and send you a proof.
Two ways. First, use a model that renders large natively — Nano Banana Pro or Nano Banana 2 (Google's Gemini image models) output up to 4K (about 4096 pixels) in Google AI Studio, and Stable Diffusion lets you set exact pixels. Otherwise, generate the largest a tool allows and enlarge it with an upscaler: a built-in "Upscale" button, or Topaz Gigapixel AI (paid), Upscayl (free and open-source) or Magnific AI. Easiest of all — send us the largest file you have and we'll upscale it for you.
That's normal — AI image tools are notoriously bad at spelling words inside a picture. Keep important text (names, prices, phone numbers, addresses) out of the AI image and add it in a layout tool, or just send us the wording as text and we'll set it cleanly and correctly.
Here's a complete example for a 24 × 36 in poster — notice how the print specs (full-bleed, the 24 × 36 in trim, the 0.125 in bleed, the resulting 24.25 × 36.25 in document, and 300 DPI) are written right into the prompt. Swap in your own subject and size:
